🌟 Welcome back to our weekly series Symbols to Sounds 🌟
🇸🇩 This week, we explore Sudan 🇸🇩
Today, we honour the "Kandaka" which means "Queen Mother", the ancient Nubian queens who embodied strength, leadership, and resilience 💪🏽👑
...One of the most renowned Kandakas, Queen Amanirenas, who led her armies to victory against the mighty Roman Empire around 25 BCE, reclaiming Kushite territories and defying one of the world’s greatest powers.
The legacy of the Kandaka is still alive today. During the 2019 Sudanese revolution, women like Alaa Salah became modern-day symbols of resistance, standing strong as beacons of hope and courage.
Join us as we dive deeper into Sudan’s rich cultural heritage, from its music to its traditional attire, and celebrate the enduring spirit of the Kandakas.
